For use as a sedative and analgesic for dogs and cats.
Available in a 10mL vial ready for injection.
Use within 90 days of first broaching the vial.
Effects may be reversed by the use of ilium Atipamezole.
Dogs. Sedative, analgesic for use in the restraint of dogs for clinical examinations and procedures, minor surgery and pre-anaesthesia. Cats. Sedative for restraint.
Maximal effect is obtained within 10 to 15 minutes. Duration of the clinically useful effect is dose related: for sedation it may be 30 to 120 minutes; for analgesia it may be 30 to 150 minutes. The dose can be repeated if necessary. The duration of analgesia is generally shorter than the duration of sedation. Both analgesic and sedative effects can be reversed with the use of atipamezole injection.
Dogs. Give by intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injection. Mild sedation. 10 to 30 microgram/kg (0.1 to 0.3 mL/10 kg). Moderately deep sedation, analgesia. 30 to 80 microgram/kg (0.3 to 0.8 mL/10 kg). Preanaesthesia. 10 to 20 microgram/kg (0.1 to 0.2 mL/10 kg). To achieve an equal effect, the higher recommended doses/kg bodyweight have to be used in small dogs compared to large dogs.
Cats. Give by IM injection only. Moderate sedation. 50 to 100 microgram/kg (0.25 to 0.5 mL/5 kg). Deep sedation. 100 to 150 microgram/kg (0.50 to 0.75 mL/5 kg).
Do not use in food producing animals. The use of Medetomidine Injection in pregnancy has not been monitored in sufficient animals and is therefore not recommended. Medetomidine Injection should not be used with sympathomimetic amines.
