Palatable Tablets

Actions
Amoxycillin is semi-synthetic penicillin, highly active against a wide range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Amoxycilllin is bactericidal due to its action inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell wall mucopeptide.

Indications
For the treatment of infections caused by organisms sensitive to amoxycillin in dogs and cats. Amoxycillin is a broad spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin, bactericidal in action. In vitro, it is effective against a wide range of amxoycillin sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria found in dogs and cats which include; Bocillus cereus, Corynbacterium spp., Citrobacter freundii, Chromobacter sp., Flavobacter spp., Pasteurella spp., (including P. multocida), Salmonella spp. Streptococci and penicillin sensitive strains of staphylococci. It was also proven to be effective against Proteus mirabilis and a majority of Bordetella bronchiseptica and Escherichia coli isolates. Amoxyvet Palatable Tablets are suitable for the control of infections caused by susceptible organisms including, infections of the alimentary tract, respiratory tract and urogenital tract, eye and ear infections and skin and wound infections.

Directions for use
Administer orally. The recommended dose rate is 10mg Amoxycillin per kg bodyweight twice daily for seven days.

The following is intended as a guide:

	40m	200mg
Dogs	2 per 8kg twice daily	1 per 20kg twice daily
Cats	1 per 4kg twice daily	1/4 per 5kg twice daily

As high blood levels are achieved quickly after oral dosing, parenteral antibiotic treatment may not be necessary even in the presence of systemic diseases. However, where parenteral treatment is required, Amoxyvet Injection is indicated and the tablets are recommended as follow up therapy.

Amoxyvet Palatable Tablets are often accepted from the hand. However, for the treatment of fastidious animals the tablets may be crushed and added to a little food.

Composition
Amoxycillin (as the Trihydrate) 40mg or 200mg/ tablet; palatable base.

Contraindications
Do Not Use in food producing animals. This product should not be used to treat penicillin sensitive animals. As with other penicillins, amoxycillin should not be used orally or parenterally in rabbits or guinea pigs. Caution is advised in other very small herbivores.

Storage
Store below 25ºC (air conditioning), in a dry place. Protect from light.
